Expanded places where concealed handgun permit holders may possess handguns.
Effective October 1, 2013, a new law allows a person with a concealed handgun permit to possess a handgun if it is in a closed compartment or container in the person's locked vehicle that is in a parking lot owned or leased by state government.
Another new statute allows a person with a concealed handgun permit or exempt from needing a
permit, if he or she is an employee of certain colleges that has not otherwise prohibited possession of a handgun under this provision, to possess a handgun in a container in the person's locked vehicle that is in a parking lot of the institution where the employee is employed.
New amendments also allow possession of a handgun by an employee of a public or nonpublic school
to have a handgun in a closed compartment or container within the person's locked vehicle or in a locked container securely affixed to the person's vehicle.
Most significantly, the Carrying a Concealed Weapon law has been amended to allow a person with a concealed handgun permit to possess their weapon in establishments where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed, but not if the premises post a conspicuous notice prohibiting a concealed handgun.
