North Carolina man facing felony charges for alleged robbery

A man from Waxhaw, North Carolina, is facing accusations of criminal conduct in connection with the robbery of a bank in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte. Although he was taken into custody by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, federal authorities are also involved in the case. Officials are pressing felony charges of common law robbery against the 47-year-old man.

The FBI claims that the man robbed the RBC Bank Branch along Ballantyne Village Way twice: once on Jan. 4 and again on Feb. 14. However, few details of the alleged robbery were released. For instance, no information was available about the amount of money, if any, that police believe the man stole. Authorities are nonetheless currently holding him under a $50,000 bond.

Reportedly, police arrested him after a description of his car was provided to officials. Yet, it is not clear why police believe he was the man responsible, much less why he was allegedly responsible for both robberies. Although both robbery attempts involved a man wearing a dark jacket and sunglasses, this does not necessarily mean the two incidents involved the same person. Indeed, the Jan. 4 robbery involved a man wearing a cowboy hat while the Feb. 14 incident involved a man wearing a toboggan.

As the case now begins to wind its way through the criminal justice system, the North Carolina man should consider the presentation of a strong and meaningful defense against the felony charges. A successful conviction for common law robbery could lead to substantial time in prison, so it is important that he fight for a fair trial. By aggressively calling into question the felony charges against him, the Waxhaw man may well see a reduction or dismissal of charges.
