Newton woman accused of white collar crimes, no motive found

A strange white collar crime case is making headlines in North Carolina. A woman in nearby Newton has been accused of issuing driver's licenses to residents who were not qualified to have them. She is facing several white collar crime charges as a result.

A tip that apparently came in a couple of months ago led to DMV investigators examining all files and documents relating to a woman who was employed by the agency as a senior examiner. Interestingly enough, the DMV has found no motive the woman could have had for giving out the licenses. According to the investigators, she does not appear to have been enticed by any monetary gain because it doesn't seem that she ever received a dime for her alleged actions.

At the Newton DMV, people who were interviewed while awaiting their driver's licenses wanted to know what will happen to the dozens of people who were allegedly issued driver's licenses without taking a written test or showing any type of paperwork. DMV officials said they were going through their records in an attempt to find the drivers, who, if found, may be required to retake their driving tests.

A local news report did not indicate exactly what charges the woman is currently facing, but one thing is certain: she must be presumed innocent unless or until proven otherwise in court. Considering there is no clear motive, it is possible that more evidence will be uncovered that could bring about a reduction or dismissal of criminal charges.
