20-year-old accused of DWI after fatal wreck in Charlotte

A young man is facing a number of criminal charges in connection with a deadly accident that occurred recently in Charlotte. The 20-year-old has so far been charged with DWI, underage drinking, felony death by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. He will need a strong criminal defense to confront these charges.

According to police, the 55-year-old man who died was apparently taking his family out of town to see relatives when his vehicle collided with another on Reedy Creek Road. The young man who is now facing criminal charges was said to have allowed his Jeep to veer over the center line and strike the family's car. Presumably, an accident reconstruction has by now taken place to determine if that assumption is in fact true.

There was no word on the conditions of the deceased man's wife or daughter, and the DWI suspect sustained minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

The collision was nearly head-on, and after the accident, the 55-year-old father apparently lost consciousness. A passerby who stopped to render aid said the family was in hysterics after the crash, and police have stated the father passed away en route to the hospital.

A local report did not indicate whether the underage DWI suspect was issued a sobriety test at the scene or if blood was drawn at the hospital. These tests can work in favor of or against an individual suspected of drunk driving. In his criminal defense, the young man may find it necessary to explore all of his legal options for protecting against the possibility of jail time, loss of his driver's license and heavy fines.
