North Carolina man accused of theft crime after returning phone

A North Carolina man is facing theft crime charges after being accused of committing a home invasion. The man allegedly used a stun gun while robbing the victim. He was arrested for the theft crime after he reportedly returned to the victim's home.

The victim claimed that the man had entered his home through an unlocked door. He stated that a stun gun was placed to his neck and the man began to rob his home. Items such as cash, a cell phone and credit cards were taken in the robbery.

The victim claimed to have recognized the accused from a local gym. When he contacted his cell phone, he told the accused that it was a work phone. He claimed to need the phone back and that the man apologized for taking it. He went back to the man's home to return the phone, but when he arrived police were already there and he was taken into custody.

A conviction on theft crime charges can bring stiff penalties in North Carolina. Those accused of such crimes could face potential jail time and financial penalties. This case is unique in that the man tried to return the property and the men may have known each other. As authorities continue their investigation into this case, the man will be given the opportunity to dispute the government's claims against him. Until then, it would likely be in his best interests to understand the severity of the charges against him so that he can begin to prepare a defense in an effort to clear his name.
