Two North Carolina residents are facing drug charges after a traffic stop. During the early morning stop, authorities claimed to have found a duffle bag inside of the vehicle that was filled with cocaine. The officers stated the bag was 'in plain sight.' The drug charges were filed against the two occupants of the vehicle after the stop.
Officers allegedly seized two kilos of cocaine from the vehicle. In addition, they also say they found marijuana, cash and a pistol. The driver of the vehicle may have tried to run from the scene, but he was stopped after a short distance. Both are facing several drug charges related to this incident.
The driver is facing cocaine trafficking as well as possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine. He is also accused of resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer. The other man also faces trafficking and possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, though he is also charged with marijuana possession. The estimated street value of the cocaine is claimed by authorities to be anywhere between $200, 000 and $300,000.
Drug charges in North Carolina can result in a conviction with a lengthy prison term and possibly hefty fines. Both men would do well to ensure they mount a valid and relevant defense. Doing so could help them vigorously fight the accusations against them and hopefully get their lives back in gear. They should also strive to understand the seriousness of the allegations against them so they can better prepare themselves for the legal fight ahead of them.
