North Carolina father facing criminal charges for potential neglect

A North Carolina man is facing criminal charges after being accused of leaving his children home alone while he went to the store to purchase beer. The 26-year-old man allegedly left a 2-year-old and an infant alone while he traveled to a local store. The criminal charges came after a concerned store clerk contacted 911 once he left the store.

Authorities believe that the two children were left alone at home in the middle of the night after the man ran out of beer. He entered the store and the clerk stated that he was in an altercation with another one of the store's customers. When he attempted to purchase the beer, the clerk took it from him and refused to sell it to him. She said that he appeared to be drunk.

The man left the store and deputies found him later on a highway. The man claimed to have run out of gas, but deputies believe that he may have crashed his moped. The incident report stated that the man may have been drinking for the majority of the day and that he admitted to leaving his children alone. When deputies contacted the man's girlfriend, she said she had no idea the children were left alone. When a deputy went to the home, the children were found asleep.

The children have been removed from the home and are being taken care of by family members. The man has since been arrested and is still in jail on a $10,000 surety bond. A crime like this can tempt people to assume another's guilt, but evidence can later be uncovered that may clear someone of wrongdoing. For now, it could be in this defendant's best interest to seek knowledgeable assistance that could help him mount a relevant defense so he is better able to fight the criminal charges against him in a North Carolina court.
