North Carolina teacher facing criminal charges after incident

A North Carolina teacher is facing criminal charges over an incident with a minor. The sixth-grade teacher has been charged with three counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child. He has been arrested and is currently being held on a $600,000 bond. If convicted of the criminal charges, he could be sentenced to life in prison.

The teacher has been accused of molesting a child under the age of 13 multiple times over the period of approximately two months. The criminal charges are linked to only one victim. Authorities are continuing the investigation, but they do not believe there were other victims. The teacher has resigned from the school.

The judge in the case declined to decrease the man's bond even though she was assured he was not a flight risk. He has received a public defender because he had not hired legal representation. If released from jail, the man is forbidden to have any contact with children younger than age 16.

The criminal charges in this case have hefty penalties attached if the man is convicted. As such, it is extremely important that he understand his rights and the repercussions of the punishments he could face. Fortunately the man is innocent until proven guilty and he will have the opportunity to fight the charges against him in a North Carolina court of law. Someone accused of crimes against children can already have an uphill road ahead of them. With a valid and relevant legal defense, the man may be able to put this case behind him and resume his normal life.
