North Carolina teacher arrested on drug charges

A teacher from Wilmington, North Carolina is facing drug charges, although she is still performing her work duties as a teacher. The teacher was arrested when she was found to have narcotics on her person and while she is not currently in jail, the investigation into this incident is ongoing. If a conviction should result from these drug charges, the teacher could potentially face harsh consequences.

The North Carolina teacher was originally pulled over for speeding and was allegedly discovered to have the prescription drug, Adderall, in her car. This drug is typically prescribed for certain types of attention deficit disorders but is also popular in illegal drug use. According to officials, the pills were neither labeled nor were they contained in prescription bottles. It is not yet clear whether the teacher may have possessed a prescription for the drugs that simply wasn't with her when she was pulled over.

According to the school's website, the accused woman is still listed as a teacher. She is apparently also being allowed to continue teaching and many of her students indicated being unaware of her legal troubles. There is no specific indication on what the terms of her release were or the recent status of the investigation.

It is important to remember that the teacher, though arrested on drug charges, is still innocent in the eyes of the law until she is proven to be otherwise. There must be compelling evidence brought against her before she can be declared guilty. This may be one reason why she is allowed to continue to teach. The presumption of innocent is a vital part of the American and North Carolina justice systems.
