2 North Carolina men admit criminal charges in real estate scheme

There are many different types of white-collar crimes, and each of those crimes can fan out into several subcategories. Fraud is an especially versatile category; one can commit fraud against a person, a business or even an entity such as the United States of America. In North Carolina, under their plea deal, two men have admitted to the criminal charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States through a series of real estate scam schemes.

Allegedly, the two men had created a scheme for a man who was attempting to build a golf course. The man had borrowed $25 million from the bank and was unable to repay it, and he was unable to finish the course. Purportedly, the two men, allegedly along with the golf course owner and others, created a scheme to make fraudulent loans.

The men supposedly used the fraudulent loans to assist with the golf course as well as used them on personal expenditures, totaling an estimated $20 million. The two men have each plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States under their plea deal, and each faces up to five years in prison as well as a $250,000 fine. The others involved are not expected to go to trial until next month.

White-collar crimes are matters to be taken very seriously, especially when the charges are federal. The two men undoubtedly would have faced harsher sentences if they had not chosen to take the plea deal. No matter what one's crime is nor how much one's trial has been sensationalized, North Carolina professionals in criminal law are available to provide fair and unbiased criminal proceedings against one's criminal charges.
