North Carolina school employee faces felony charges

A school employee has been arrested after he allegedly pretended to be a teenage girl through a Facebook profile. He has been accused of soliciting minors to send him nude photos of themselves. He faces felony charges in North Carolina of indecent exposure to a minor.

The suspect was employed by the Cabarrus County School where he worked as a groundskeeper and a sports coach. During his tenure, he also volunteered as a football coach for the county middle school district. In spite of his close working relationship with kids, it is reported that he created a Facebook account and passed himself off as a 14-year-old girl. This was allegedly done in an effort to obtain naked photos of teenage boys. Authorities have determined that seven minors may have fallen victim to his actions.

The school district was notified and the man was suspended with pay. He is now being detained at the county jail on a $150,000 bond. Authorities are still investigating this case and have urged members of the community to contact them with any information about the allegations.

Naturally, any type of sex crime allegation is serious. Individuals who have been charged with sex crimes usually have an enormous battle to contend with, along aside from their felony charges. North Carolina, just like many other states, seeks to prosecute these types of allegations to the fullest extent of the law. While soliciting nude photos of a child is by no means appropriate, a simple accusation of wrongdoing is a far reach from a conviction after trial. Prosecutors will need to establish proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
