Woman arrested for firearm and drug charges after standoff

A woman from Boone was recently arrested after what police are calling a standoff. Reportedly, North Carolina police initially attempted to arrest the woman for drug charges pertaining to methamphetamine as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Now, she will likely face additional charges for allegedly evading arrest.

The report does not reveal the details of the woman's alleged drug and firearm crimes. The report indicates that, as a convicted felon, she is barred from possessing a firearm. She is also suspected of manufacturing methamphetamine as well as distributing and selling it, but -- again -- it is not clear why the police suspected her of these crimes.

Nevertheless, officers from the Watauga County Sheriff's Office worked with officers from the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force in the Western District of North Carolina to determine the location of the woman's residence. Subsequently, officers converged on her location in an attempt to arrest her. However, the woman purportedly barricaded herself within the residence for approximately two hours before she surrendered to authorities.

The woman was taken into custody at the Watauga County Jail for her firearm and drug charges, and she may eventually face additional charges for resisting arrest. When anyone in North Carolina is accused of a crime and is about to be arrested, it is always in that person's best interest to cooperate with the arresting officers as much as possible because a person's cooperation may ultimately affect the disposition of that person's criminal proceedings. If the woman chooses to cooperate with investigating officers from this point forward, her cooperation in this step of the criminal process could also positively affect the resolution of her case. Nevertheless, the serious charges that she faces require that she focus on the specifics of the accusations while seeking to protect her legal rights at every stage of the legal proceedings.
