A 21-year-old was arrested under the suspicion that he committed sex crimes, and he recently made his first court appearance. The man is accused of sexually assaulting a University of North Carolina Charlotte student in her dorm room. He was arrested under multiple sexually related offenses for his alleged actions, and his bond was set at $200,000.
The man had supposedly been invited into a female student's dorm room, but he purportedly entered her suite mate's room instead. The police were called after the female student living in that room woke up and allegedly saw the man sexually assaulting her. He purportedly left the dorm room, and he was arrested several hours later at his workplace. He faces serious charges of sexual battery, second-degree sexual offense and second-degree rape.
The UNCC police do not believe that the man entered the wrong room by accident. Moreover, they also may try to sanction the woman who the man was initially supposed to be visiting. During his court appearance, he was silent; however, several people showed up to support him, and they were vocal about their opinions. They believe that, if anything had truly happened between the man and the alleged victim, then alcohol could have been involved and whatever occurred could have been consensual.
The investigation into the man's alleged offenses is continuing. As with all sexually related offenses in North Carolina, a guilty conviction would mean that the man would be legally branded a sex offender. Particularly in cases like this one where the only witness is the alleged victim, all necessary procedures must be taken in order to protect the accused man's rights in all aspects of his criminal process.
