Panthers player arrested for violent offense against

Greg Hardy, the defensive end for the Panthers Pro Bowl football team, was recently arrested for misdemeanor crimes. The investigating Mecklenburg officers suspect that the man assaulted his girlfriend and communicated threats. Hardy has been charged with a violent offense for the alleged crime.

The Charlotte police responded to a call at about 4:18 a.m. concerning a possible domestic assault. When they arrived at the residence, a 24-year-old female supposedly told the officers that Hardy had assaulted and threatened her. The officers claim that the woman had scratches and bruises, but she reportedly refused to get medical treatment. The two allegedly had been in a relationship since September 2013.

A search warrant was issued for Hardy, and he turned himself in later that day. He was required to spend the night in jail as part of a "cooling off" procedure typical for persons accused of domestic violence. He was not initially offered bond as a part of this procedure, but it is possible that it will be offered to him at a later date. Hardy was formally charged with communicating threats and assault on a female, both misdemeanor charges.

Even though the charges that Hardy faces in Charlotte are misdemeanors, if convicted of a violent offense, it could greatly impact his Pro Bowl career. With his career as a football player possibly at stake, Hardy will likely want to take even more interest in gathering information pertaining to his case and forming a solid defense against his charges. He will also likely want to take all actions necessary to ensure that his legal rights are protected.
