1 facing drunk driving charges after collision with school bus

There are a multitude of circumstances that can lead an individual to exhibit erratic driving behavior. However, when an accident occurs under similar circumstances, the initial thoughts of the responding officers may lean toward intoxication. A 30-year-old man has recently been arrested and accused of drunk driving after he veered into the wrong lane and struck a school bus full of kids in North Carolina.

The incident is said to have occurred around 3:30 p.m. on a recent Tuesday, when a truck suddenly veered into the path of a school bus. The truck proceeded to collide with the bus before rolling over and erupting in flames. According to reports, several children were aboard the bus at the time, but no one was injured in the process.

When questioned by authorities, the man advised that he was searching for something within his vehicle at the time and, upon looking up, was unable to react in time to avoid collision. During this period, authorities claim that he submitted to a breath test, which allegedly indicated his blood alcohol content to be .11, which exceeds the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle. He was taken into custody soon thereafter and is facing charges for driving while intoxicated.

Drunk driving charges carry severe consequences if a conviction is obtained, and those accused of similar crimes may find it advisable to seek guidance early in the process. When facing a similar situation, a person could choose to speak with an experienced attorney for advice on the best course of action to take moving forward. A defense attorney can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client in North Carolina and subsequently assist in pursuing the best possible outcome given the situation.
