1 facing numerous drug charges after falling asleep in vehicle

There are a multitude of circumstances that can cause an individual to experience driver fatigue, such as long work hours or a medical condition. Should authorities be notified of a driver who is asleep at the wheel, they may wish to further investigate the situation, which could lead to criminal charges if they suspect the presence of wrongdoing. A North Carolina man has been arrested following a recent traffic stop, and is facing numerous drug charges after police initiated a search of his vehicle.

Police claim to have received reports of a possible drunk driver early on a recent Friday morning. Upon arriving at the scene, they say a man was asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle in the wrong lane of traffic. The vehicle was reportedly still in drive, and after waking up, the driver removed his foot from the brakes and nearly avoided colliding with a nearby tree.

A search of the vehicle was initiated soon thereafter, which allegedly unearthed more than 100 grams of methamphetamine, along with over an ounce of marijuana and an unspecified amount of Klonopin. The man was taken into custody and charged with numerous drug crimes, including trafficking and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. The penalties for charges of this nature are severe, and those convicted could face a lengthy prison sentence, along with a substantial amount in monetary fines.

Individuals who face drug charges may wish to protect themselves against potentially devastating consequences, but they might be uncertain how to proceed. When in a similar situation, a person might find it beneficial to speak with a defense attorney for assistance in forming a strong defense. An attorney in North Carolina can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client and assist in pursuing the most favorable outcome possible given the situation.
