Collision results in drunk driving charges for North Carolina man

Driving under the influence of alcohol carries serious penalties if a conviction is obtained. Should an accident occur, especially one leading to injuries, the consequences may only increase in severity, potentially leaving an accused individual uncertain how best to proceed. A 28-year-old man has recently been arrested and accused of drunk driving following a recent accident in North Carolina.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. when a vehicle suddenly crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic. They claim this resulted in a near head-on collision with another vehicle that was carrying four individuals. All four individuals in the other car were taken to the hospital for treatment, and although the driver reportedly suffered broken bones in the incident, the three teenage passengers suffered only minor injuries.

Authorities claim the driver of the initial vehicle fled the scene and was located at his place of residence soon thereafter. Although no information was provided as to the performance of field sobriety or breath tests, the man was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated. According to reports, he remains in custody while awaiting future court proceedings, and he could be using this time to prepare by focusing on his defense.

Those who are accused of drunk driving may find it beneficial to seek guidance in the early stages of the process. By speaking with a defense attorney, a client in North Carolina could obtain advice on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney can work toward protecting a client's legal rights throughout the process and provide further assistance with any future legal proceedings associated with the charges.
