Fatal pedestrian accident leads to drunk driving charges

Being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol can be a stressful and intimidating experience. Those who face DUI charges may wish to protect themselves against potentially devastating consequences, but they may be uncertain how best to approach the situation. A woman has recently been accused of drunk driving following her alleged involvement in a fatal pedestrian accident in North Carolina.

According to authorities, the incident took place on a recent Thursday morning when a man was struck by a vehicle while walking on the side of the road. Police assert that the driver did not remain at the scene of the accident, and that the man was left on the side of the road for nearly two hours. Upon being located, he was taken to a medical facility, and was reportedly pronounced dead soon thereafter.

Police also claim that a woman eventually came forward and attempted to report the collision. She was taken into custody and is reportedly facing numerous charges in relation to the incident, including driving while impaired and felony death by vehicle. It is unclear how authorities came to believe she was intoxicated at the time, and she reportedly remains in custody on bond while awaiting further legal proceedings.

Individuals who are accused of drunk driving may find it advisable to seek guidance from a defense attorney as soon as any charges are filed. An attorney can thoroughly examine the situation and provide a client in North Carolina with advice on the best course of action. If a conviction cannot be avoided, an attorney can assist in pursuing a lesser sentence during subsequent legal proceedings.
