2 face charges following domestic violence incident

While many couples experience disagreements on occasion, in most cases, the resulting argument may be short-lived and uneventful. However, sometimes a simple verbal spat can become volatile and lead to criminal charges for those involved. Two individuals have been arrested following a domestic violence incident where shots were fired outside of a residence in North Carolina.

According to reports, authorities responded to the scene after receiving reports of shots being fired at a local residence. Police claim the incident began when a fight erupted between two individuals. Following the dispute, a man reportedly attempted to leave the scene in a vehicle when a woman located a gun and fired a bullet at him, subsequently shattering a window next to him. Although the bullet did not hit the man, he reportedly suffered cuts from the glass.

Although the details of what took place during the fight remain unclear, both were taken into custody soon thereafter. The man is reportedly facing criminal charges for assault and false imprisonment, while the woman stands accused of assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. The penalties for charges of this nature are severe, and a conviction could have a lingering impact on the lives of those involved.

When accused of domestic violence, an individual may feel as though his or her options are limited. However, by speaking with a defense attorney, one could obtain advice in how best to approach the situation. An attorney can assist a client in North Carolina in forming a strong defense, and if necessary, in negotiating a reduction to the charges or sentence during legal proceedings.
