1 facing felony domestic violence charges following altercation

While many domestic disputes begin with a heated war of words, similar incidents may rarely escalate into physical altercations. However, should a dispute turn violent, the consequences can be severe, especially if children are involved. A 29-year-old man has been taken into custody and is facing multiple charges following an alleged domestic violence incident that is said to have taken place in North Carolina.

According to authorities, the incident took place on a recent Saturday night when a physical altercation broke out at a local residence. They claim a woman inside the home attempted to call for help but was prevented from doing so and threatened with a firearm. Authorities also claim the man hit one of her kids and held everyone in the house against their will.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement agents assert they heard the altercation and gained entry to the home soon thereafter. The man was taken into custody and faces several charges, including felony violation of a domestic violence order and kidnapping. Charges of this nature carry serious penalties if a conviction is obtained, and those accused of such crimes may find it beneficial to seek counsel as soon as the charges are filed.

Individuals who face domestic violence charges may wish to protect themselves against undesirable consequences, but the process can be stressful and intimidating. Those who face similar circumstances could consult with an experienced attorney in North Carolina for guidance on the best course of action with which to proceed. A defense attorney can work toward protecting a client's legal rights and provide assistance during any future legal proceedings associated with the charges.
