Sex crimes: Charlotte man charged with rape

A Charlotte man is the prime suspect in a number of sexual assaults that have occurred on local college campuses recently. Now, the 29-year-old suspect has also been charged with rape in connection with one of the incidents. Like this man, those facing charges for any types of sex crimes are well advised to seek experienced legal counsel in order to fight the formal accusations against them.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the man is responsible for a series of sexual battery incidents that occurred close to the campuses for Central Piedmont Community College and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Two attacks allegedly took place near CPCC on Wednesday, March 7, and three more occurred near UNCC the following Friday. Purportedly, the man approached his victims at local stores.

Now, however, DNA evidence purportedly links the suspect to a rape that occurred near the UNCC campus on the night of Friday, March 9. Apparently, a young woman, who is a student at the university, was walking home, and she reportedly did not know the suspect. Police were alerted to the incident after receiving a call from someone about a suspicious person in the area. They arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.

Although the evidence against the man appears strong, he retains the right to fight all charges for sex crimes in criminal court. A seasoned criminal defense attorney in North Carolina would be able to challenge any evidence presented and work for the best possible outcome. However, considering the strength of the prosecution's evidence, the suspect may elect to pursue a plea agreement, if one is offered, which could offer more favorable sentencing terms that what he may receive were he to be convicted at trial.
