Summer camp owner facing charges for sex crimes

With summer approaching, many parents in North Carolina are likely looking for summer camps or other activities for their children to participate in during their break. These parents typically like to assume that their children will be safe in any environment, and that their children will experience the joy and fun they expect. However, a Charlotte man and co-founder of a local summer camp faces serious criminal charges regarding sex crimes he allegedly committed against children in his care.

Authorities arrested the 52-year-old man this past March in connection with two separate incidents that they say occurred last year. The first incident allegedly occurred at the man's summer camp during the 2017 break, where he purportedly sexually assaulted a girl who was only 7 years old at the time. The second round of charges stemmed from an incident that occurred late in 2017, where the man is accused of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl in an after-school program he was sponsoring.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools issued a statement that the man was not an employee of the district. He was an independent contractor and registered as a volunteer with the district. He had to pass extensive background checks prior to receiving clearance, and his clearance has been revoked in light of his arrest and subsequent charges. He has also been banned from all of the district's facilities. He currently faces two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

Although these accusations of sex crimes are very serious, the man retains the right to mount an aggressive defense to fight the charges against him. As with anyone in North Carolina facing similar circumstances, he has likely retained the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney to handle his case. An astute attorney will examine all evidence related to the case and will work to achieve the most favorable outcome possible.
