Man, woman in North Carolina face multiple drug charges

While most people realize that they have certain rights, they may not fully understand those rights. For example, they are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures. While the recent arrest of a man and woman in North Carolina followed a search that was conducted with a warrant, it is unclear what evidence supported that warrant. Unfortunately, the pair now face drug charges.

The search that led to their arrest happened on a day in November. According to police reports, they had received complaints that drugs were possibly being sold from the apartment. Police say that were able to gather evidence and obtain a search warrant -- though the details of the complaints and what evidence was gathered is unclear.

The search of the 24-year-old man's apartment allegedly led to the discovery of hundreds of grams of cocaine and 20 pounds of marijuana. Though a 23-year-old woman reportedly lives in another apartment complex, she was also arrested. They both face drug trafficking charges due to the quantity of drugs police say they found. Both are also charged with possession of a Schedule V drug due to the presence of a bottle of codeine cough syrup without a prescription. The man also faces a weapons charge.

Unfortunately, the drug charges against the pair are serious, likely leaving them facing several important decisions that will potentially have a significant impact on the rest of their lives. Because of the circumstances regarding the North Carolina case, they may each want an experienced criminal defense attorney to help examine all the details leading up to and following the arrests. Not only can such a professional help a client understand the available options, but the lawyer can also recognize unlawful treatment and take appropriate action.
