North Carolina bus crash leads to drunk driving charge

Car accidents happen every day for a variety of different reasons. Unfortunately, a car that drifts slightly over a dividing line in a roadway can quickly cause an accident. Most drivers in North Carolina and across the country have likely allowed their vehicle to drift over the centerline, typically with no serious harm. However, a woman is now facing accusations of drunk driving after she was allegedly involved in an accident that sent several middle school students to the hospital.

The incident happened on a day in mid-December. According to police, a 56-year-old woman apparently drifted across the centerline in her vehicle, resulting in a collision. The impact is said to have caused the bus to overturn.

One of the 19 students on the bus suffered critical injuries while 12 others suffered minor injuries. Both drivers involved were reportedly injured as well. Initially charged with driving left of center and driving while impaired, the woman now faces two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. In an interview, the woman claimed that she was not drunk at the time of the incident and expressed regret for the tragedy.

Unfortunately, the drunk driving and other allegations the North Carolina woman faces are serious. Often, those facing criminal charges who have no legal training feel unprepared to make the decisions that are facing them. As such, they often need the guidance of a professional who has the necessary experience and training to ensure that their clients are able to make informed decisions about their cases, potentially reducing some of the stress experienced as they navigate the criminal justice system.
