North Carolina football coach resigns, faces drug charges

It is sometimes surprising to realize that what could be a completely innocuous action could be viewed as suspicious by others. That suspicion, unfortunately, can lead to serious accusations if acted upon. In fact, an assistant football coach at a North Carolina high school has now resigned from his positions after drug charges were filed against him

Law enforcement officials began an investigation against the 28-year-old man after someone reported that he was selling drugs on school property; that report was made in August. It is unclear who made this report or what led that person to believe that the man was engaging in such actions. Police conducted a search of the man's residence and vehicle on a day in early December.

Reports indicate that police claim to have discovered over 4 pounds of marijuana, a firearm and cash, among other suspicious items. He now faces 19 felony charges in addition to a misdemeanor weapon charge. He reportedly resigned from his positions of instructional assistant and assistant coach before turning himself in to authorities.

Unfortunately, drug charges and other criminal allegations can have a serious impact on a person's life. Because of this, many people in North Carolina are unsure of how to respond to such accusations. As a result, they often turn to an experienced criminal defense attorney to help guide them as they choose the most appropriate response for their individual circumstances. For some, this could including defending themselves in court, but for others it may involve negotiating for a reduced sentence or charge in exchange for a guilty plea.
