Drunk driving suspected in fatal North Carolina crash

It is easy to miss a traffic sign. Even the most vigilant of drivers can accidentally overlook an important sign while driving. While doing so could have tragic consequences, missing a stop sign, for example, often happens without the influence of drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, police claim that a man was drunk driving when he allegedly caused an accident in North Carolina that resulted in a fatality.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in January. According to reports, a 29-year-old male driver was eastbound on a North Carolina road when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. Reports indicate that a northbound school bus struck the passenger side of the vehicle.

A 29-year-old female passenger in the car was transported to the hospital where she ultimately passed away. The male driver was ejected from the vehicle and transported to the hospital; police believe that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. Reports indicate that marijuana and an open container were also discovered in the vehicle.

In addition to the drunk driving allegation, the North Carolina man is charged with possession of an open container of alcohol, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to yield right of way and driving while license revoked. The charges against him are serious and have serious implications if convicted. As such, he is likely carefully weighing his legal options. He may also choose to seek additional guidance to ensure that he is fully aware of the consequences of any decisions that he makes.
