North Carolina domestic violence claim results in arrest

While the holidays are typically a time associated with family togetherness, not every family gets along all the time. Unfortunately, even when families typically experience little conflict, the stress of the holidays can change how family members interact with one another. For example, police in North Carolina responding to a domestic violence call have recently arrested a man, and he now faces multiple charges.

The incident allegedly occurred on a day in late December. According to reports, a 25-year-old male broke into his grandmother's apartment. Police claim that he injured officers who responded to the scene.

Reports claim that the man attempted to choke one of the responding officers as she attempted to restrain him. Another officer reportedly suffered scratches to her ear and face; none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. One officer claims that the man threatened to kill her when he is released from jail. Many of the details regarding the incident, including why it is believed the man was entering his grandmother's apartment, are unclear.

Despite this lack of clarity, the North Carolina man now faces multiple criminal charges as a result of the domestic violence call. Charges include breaking and entering, assault by strangulation and communicating threats. While the accusations against the man are serious, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in order for him to be convicted -- a  standard that is purposefully set high to prevent wrongful convictions. An attorney with experience with such cases can help examine the evidence against him to determine to most appropriate response.
