2 face drug charges following North Carolina traffic stop

Many drivers in North Carolina have experienced the nerve-wracking predicament of being pulled over by a police officer. As stressful as this situation may be, such an incident is typically relatively routine, and the driver and his or her passengers are usually on their way within a short period of time. Unfortunately, two people found themselves behind bars, facing significant drug charges following a recent traffic stop.

Police officers reportedly pulled over a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man one day in January. Police claim that, at the time of the traffic stop, there was a warrant for the man's arrest because of a charge related to possession and intent to sell and distribute cocaine. The stop ultimately led to two arrests.

Police allegedly found large amounts of cocaine, fentanyl analog and a cutting agent in the vehicle. Reports claim that if the cutting agent were combined with the fentanyl, the combination would create 8,500 bags that could be sold. Both the driver and his 29-year-old female passenger were taken into custody.

Both face several drug charges in North Carolina as a result of the incident, including trafficking opiates and cocaine in addition to possession with intent to sell cocaine and a Schedule II controlled substance. If convicted, the ramifications could be serious and life-changing. An experienced attorney can help the man or woman carefully examine the details of the case and make a decision on how to proceed -- potentially including fighting the allegations in court or negotiating for lesser charges in exchange for a plea deal.
