North Carolina man accused of drunk driving in fatal crash

The unexpected loss of a life is always a tragedy. Often following a crash that ends in death, law enforcement officials are quick to make a judgment call on the cause of the accident. However, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt before a conviction of criminal charges can occur. Unfortunately, a man in North Carolina now faces criminal charges after police claimed drunk driving was a factor in a recent fatal crash.

The incident happened one night on a day in January and involved two vehicles. Witnesses claim that two vehicles were both southbound when one of the vehicles allegedly struck the other. The second vehicle exited the roadway before it overturned and caught fire. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle passed away.

The 23-year-old man reportedly behind the wheel of the first vehicle was seriously injured in the collision. He now faces multiple charges, including felony death by motor vehicle, DWI, improper passing, having an open container and speeding, among other charges. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

The criminal justice system often seems overwhelming, and even those who have extensive training and experience have questions. For those facing accusations of drunk driving in North Carolina who have no such experience, the process can seem especially daunting. However, an experienced defense attorney can often help those facing criminal charges have more confidence in the decisions that they must make, including whether to fight the charges in court and pursue a plea deal that could result in a reduced sentence and/or charges.
